American Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone Set World Record at Paris Olympics

American sprinter Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone set a new world record in the women's 400-meter hurdles final at the 2024 Paris Olympics on Thursday (August 8).

McLaughlin-Levrone finished with a time of 50.37, breaking her own previous record of 50.65 set at the U.S. trials in June. The 25-year-old had previously set the record for the event five times prior to her gold medal win on Thursday, initially breaking fellow American Dalilah Muhammad's previous record in June 2021.

Fellow American Anna Cockrell took silver with a time of 51.87 and Femke Bol of the Netherlands took bronze with a time of 52.15. McLaughlin-Levrone previously won gold in the women's 400-meter hurdles and women's 4x400-meter relay at the pandemic-delayed Tokyo Olympics in 2021.

The New Jersey native also previously won gold in the women's 400-meter hurdles and the women's 4x400-meter relay at the 2022 Eugene World Championships, as well as the 4x400-meter relay at the 2019 Doah World Championships, where she also took silver in the women's 400-meter hurdles.
