Colin Cowherd: Steph Curry Single-Handedly Won the Gold Medal for Team USA

Colin Cowherd: “Almost 20 million people watched that gold medal win. That is the biggest number of fans that have watched a single basketball game in this country in a long time. It came down to Steph and LeBron, but primarily Steph is the reason we won that game. What’s amazing about Steph is all these years he’s had doubters. I remember when he got to the last Finals against Boston and I can remember the chorus of people who said ‘WELL, IF YOU DON’T WIN A FINALS MVP...’... And I was like ‘wait, you’re doubting him? He doesn’t qualify as an all-time great??’... You just look silly doubting Steph Curry. Take out Magic Johnson and he is by far and away the best point guard ever. Only Magic was close and Magic couldn’t score like this. Magic elevated others, Magic could play more positions, but he didn't do THIS.
When other players like LeBron James not just look at you, but kind of look at you in awe and you can do things that they can’t. LeBron is the great Swish Army Knife in basketball but he can’t do what Steph does. Steph can do a lot of things even the great ones can’t duplicate. Add in the IQ, EQ, the confidence, the leadership, the coachability, the willingness, the self-awareness to let others dominate for a time. Team USA is now 29-0 when Steph is playing for them.
When Jayson Tatum can’t hit jumpers, he shrinks. Steph doesn’t. It’s not that he’s just the best shooter ever, he has the highest scoring ceiling ever. When you’re really an all-timer, you can make all-time greats feel less than, or outdated. Mathematically, Michael Jordan’s mid-range game is outdated. The sky hook is outdated. Steph can make things, players, games, and people look outdated. There is only one guy and one reason Team USA won the gold, and it’s not LeBron, it’s Steph. He’s got more points faster than anybody has done it. What you’re watching here – nobody can duplicate it. Shots that would seem outrageous and ill-advised with other guys – with Steph you want him to take those. Tatum struggled early and kept struggling. Steph struggled early and he’s the singular reason we won the gold.”

Watch Colin Cowherd of FS1’s The Herd explain why Steph Curry was the ‘singular reason’ the United States men’s basketball team won gold at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Check out the segment above as Colin details why he thinks this tournament did a lot more for elevating Steph Curry’s legacy than it did for LeBron James’.
