Colin Cowherd Warns Mauricio Pochettino After Taking USA Men's Soccer Job

Colin Cowherd: “So the United States Men’s National Team has hired their next coach -- Mauricio Pochettino. He took Tottenham to the Champion’s League final, he’s coached high-leverage teams, he’s very good at developing young players, he’s responsible, he gets some credit for Harry Kane’s development into a star... Welcome to Team USA. About 60% of the resources and 95% of the expectations. Here’s your Team USA puffy jacket – good luck.
Let me give you a heads up on what’s going to happen and what’s in store for you, Mauricio... I wish you the very best. This is the one team in the country that I root for and I don’t care if I’m a journalist. You will be blamed for ALL the losses. It’s never the players. The players are NEVER responsible. It’s ALWAYS the manager. Gregg Berhalter won almost 70% of his matches. There are a lot of politics in our soccer. It's very territorial and landmines everywhere. You’ll need to develop a toughness and a culture, both more than we’ve ever had. Many of our players are flourishing overseas but we have no grit. Did I mention that you’ll be blamed for ALL the losses and usually draws as well?? You have to then cobble this together all fairly quickly, build culture, grit, and chemistry – we're hosting the next World Cup. I won’t say it’s delusional but our expectations during my entire life are about 12 spots in the rankings higher than what’s true.
Your primary opponent will be young soccer fans online. You’ll learn very quickly that they know much more than you. You’re dumb and they’re brilliant, although they couldn’t make the intramural soccer team. Players aren’t held accountable. When Gregg Berhalter tried that with one, he was basically on the wrong side of employment. That’s just not the way it works. You’ll have your most leverage now because eventually you’ll be blamed for not winning the World Cup. Be hard on the players and create a culture. We’ve had more talent than we’ve ever had but what are we? Are we tough? No, we don’t have Clint Dempsey anymore. We're just talented. You’ve got leverage early – use every ounce of it. Hold players accountable. Blame THEM for insufficiencies. We blame hockey players, football players, basketball players, but we never blame soccer players.
Here’s the good news. It’s not a demolition, it’s a renovation. You’ve got skill and the foundation is actually pretty damn strong.”

Listen to Colin Cowherd of Fox Sports Radio’s The Herd discuss the United States Men’s National Team’s hiring of former Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain, and Tottenham head coach Mauricio Pochettino to replace derided ex-coach USMNT Gregg Berhalter, as Colin warns Pochettino about the delusional American soccer fans that effectively railroaded Berhalter out of town.

Check out the segment above as Colin details the challenges that Pochettino will face with the 2026 World Cup in America just on the horizon, saying Pochettino is going to have to deal with a group of players who never gets the blame when they throw up air balls in major tournament.
