Colin Kaepernick Doesn’t Actually Want Back in the NFL

Doug Gottlieb & Dan Beyer are in for Dan Patrick this morning and they address the latest failed effort to reenter the NFL by former quarterback Colin Kaepernick after reports he was offered a coaching position by Los Angeles Chargers HC Jim Harbaugh. And while it seems this is a story about an aging has-been’s last-ditch efforts to get back in the game, Dan thinks the opposite is true. Kaepernick is simply manufacturing more conflict with the NFL in order to increase his standing as a civil rights activist, and he has no intention of ever rejoining the league.

Dan Beyer: “Is Colin Kaepernick going to be known as a former quarterback in the NFL, or is he going to be known as a civil rights activist?”

Doug Gottlieb: “He’ll be known as a civil rights activist.”

Dan Beyer: “Absolutely! And that’s where he is right now...He is more powerful saying, ‘I am still the victim here. I am not allowed in the league. Owners are not allowing me to play in the league...’ If he joins the NFL, he loses the identity of being that civil rights activist.”
