Noah Lyles Accepts Tyreek Hill's Challenge to Race Him in the 100 Meters

Dan Patrick: “We have a plan for you vs. Tyreek Hill. How about you both wear football uniforms??”
Noah Lyles: “HAHA. Sounds a little too gimmicky. He’s the one who challenged me.”
DP: “This is for TV, Noah! I’m going to produce this. Maybe that or you both hold a football and race. I know why he [Tyreek Hill] wants to do 50 yards, because even if he loses, it’ll be close. But 100 meters – there's no interest in that. You have everything to lose. But you would still do this with Tyreek Hill?”
Lyles: “He challenged me, so that means he wants the crown of ‘Fastest Man’, so you want to race the race that gets you the crown. There might be leeway for adjustments. If you think we’re running anything that has ‘yards’ in it, you’re sorely mistaken. But we can definitely have conversations. I’d have no problem having conversations about it. But you’re right, this is entertainment. No, we won’t be running with pads on, but hey, I don’t have a problem laying out a track in the middle of a football stadium and saying ‘hey, let’s pack this place out!’”

Listen to United States track star and 100m Olympic gold medalist Noah Lyles join The Dan Patrick Show to accept NFL All-Pro receiver Tyreek Hill’s challenge to race him.

Hill has teased the idea for the last few months, first saying he wanted Lyles in the 100 meters, and then saying he wants to race Lyles in a 50-yard race.

Hill ran track in college and has a personal best in the 100m of 10.19 seconds, which is a far cry from Lyles’ 9.79 that he ran in the 100m finals in Paris. However, given Lyles’ habit of slow starts, one that saw him nearly in last place the first 30 meters of the 100m final in Paris, a 50-yard race would obviously even the playing field against the quickest wide receiver in the NFL.

Lyles says if Hill wants the ‘World’s Fastest Man’ crown, then he’s going to have to beat him in the race that warrants that billing, which is the 100 meters, although Lyles said he would allow some ‘leeway’ if Hill wanted to add other gimmicks to the race to make it a made-for-TV event.
