Watch Colin Cowherd of FS1’s The Herd discuss Tua Tagaovailoa’s humiliating recent remarks on his former Dolphins head coach Brian Flores, with Colin explaining how it’s just another case of the Bill Belichick coaching tree being exposed for its lethal toxicity.
Check out the segment above as Colin says the endearing NBA term ‘Villanova Guy’ can now be a comparable antonym to the NFL’s disparaging version called ‘Belichick Guy’, for an ‘obnoxious, combative, authoritative, and non-collaborative' coach infiltrating your locker room.
Colin Cowherd: “There’s a term we use in the NBA called ‘Villanova Guys’. It speaks very well of Jay Wright and the Villanova program. It means not much ego, hardworking, relentless, coachable, no baggage, love the game, great locker room guy. Everybody in the NBA wants a ‘Villanova Guy.’ It speaks beyond the player, it’s the culture that they came from. As Belichick looks for a job next year, and I don’t think this broadcast job is what he ever dreamed of doing, there’s a new term in football called ‘Belichick Guys’. They’re all combative. They’re obnoxious. Flores, Matt Patricia, Joe Judge, Josh McDaniels, Bill O’Brien... Brady and Brian Hoyer used to call O’Brien ‘teapot’ because he boiled over all the time in meetings. This thing with Brian Flores is beyond obnoxious; it’s cruel. It’s essentially the opposite of the Sean McVay or Kyle Shanahan tree. DeMeco Ryans, Robert Saleh, Kevin O’Connell... They come out and they’re collaborative, they get along with people, they’re pro-player... Flores probably watched Belichick dog cuss Brady for years. Even people favorable of Belichick have come out and said ‘I can’t believe what Tom put up with.’
Sorry Belichick fanboys and sycophants, it’s becoming crystal clear that Tom Brady, and ONLY Tom Brady, elevated Belichick and the entire staff. Josh McDaniels couldn’t get along with Derek Carr and Jay Cutler. Matt Patricia couldn't get along with Matt Stafford, and Stafford gets along with everybody. Brian Flores was called a ‘terrible person’. I don’t think Tua is the best quarterback in the league but he’s a nice kid. Everyone I talk to really likes him, and he works really hard.
‘Villanova Guy’ is a great term, ‘Belichick Guy’ is toxic. Belichick’s 11 years in the NFL without Tom Brady as a starter: one playoff win. And he’s the ‘best’ of the Belichick guys. There’s now a term [‘Belichick Guy], and we think ‘ehhh, obnoxious, non-collaborative, authoritative -- ehhh, no thanks.’ Bill got one interview, and this Tua story falls on him to a large degree. The company that you keep says a lot. The group and the culture that you’re a part of says a lot. Be very careful about it.”
