Jason McIntyre: Bill Belichick Will Be a Sexy NFL Coaching Hire Next Year

Watch Jason McIntyre, guest-hosting for Colin Cowherd of FS1’s The Herd, explain why he thinks six-time Super Bowl-winning head coach Bill Belichick, now somewhat of a derided name in NFL circles, could actually become one of the most intriguing coaching hires next season when powerhouse rosters like the Eagles, Bills, Cowboys, Jets, and Bears might need a veteran leader to push them over the top.

Check out the segment above as McIntyre says he believes Belichick could turn in one of the greatest redemption stories in NFL history if he can rise from the ashes of a 4-13 final season in New England to Super Bowl champion once again, with a list of potential suitors being stacked with marquee players.

Jason McIntyre: “I don’t know if this is a hot take or warm take, but is Bill Belichick undervalued now from a coaching perspective? Gregg Popovich hasn’t made the playoffs in five years and hasn’t won a playoff series since 2017. Popovich gets no heat. Yet Belichick, who won more than Popovich and is known as the greatest football coach ever is suddenly chopped liver and no one wants anything to do with him? It feels a little harsh.
I looked at the last four years Belichick has had: 7-9 with Cam Newton, then they went to the playoffs with Mac Jones and finished 10-7, then the following year they were 8-9, and then last year they fell off a cliff and went 4-13. I get it, the last seven years in the draft he’s making mistakes, and getting punters and guards, and disaster after disaster... I get that, but America loves a redemption story when people rise from the ashes to the top.
The Patriots kept re-inventing themselves during that dynasty. They would be a defensive-first team, then they’re a running-the-football team, then they’re two tight ends, then they go to the slot guys, then they got Randy Moss. They were continually getting creative and smart. That’s how you stay on top for two decades. Shouldn’t THAT be commended instead of a horrific 4-13 coaching job and a bunch of bad drafts? At one point does Bill Belichick become undervalued?
Here are some teams who could have coaching openings next year... Bears, Cowboys, Jets, Bills, Eagles... Somebody somewhere is going to get Bill Belichick. I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I think there’s a good story here somewhere. Somebody is going to get lucky next off-season."
