Jon Gruden Asked Difficult Questions in Rare Interview Appearance

Dan Patrick: “How frustrating is it? You’re just watching with a bunch of guys in a room, you’re not on the sidelines, and you’re not in the booth.”
Jon Gruden: “It’s frustrating but I’m having a good time. Behind the scenes we’ve had so many quarterbacks and players – college players, pro players, high school players... I’ve had the chance to visit the Chiefs in Training Camp, so I’m still real close to it. But I do miss the everyday competition and interaction with the team. You just keep your fingers crossed and hope you get one more chance.”
DP: “Where does your lawsuit stand with the NFL?"
Gruden: “Well, I don’t know. I’m not here to talk about my lawsuit, that’s in other people’s hands right now. I’m just here trying to spread my love for football, Dan.”
DP: “Yeah, but I want to know; if you’re going to get back into the game, this could help significantly I would think if you want to get back into college or get back into the NFL. You don’t have to answer it, I have to ask the question. So if you choose not to answer, that’s you, but I’m just trying to figure out where things stand and a timeline for maybe coaching again.”
Gruden: “Well, it’s in due process. It’s not in my hands. So I could sit here and answer any questions, but I don’t have anything to answer. I don’t know where it is. It’s in the court’s hands, so I’m here to just study football and tell you what I see. That’s the best I can do right now.”
DP: “Who do you think leaked that information?”
Gruden: “I’m not going to get into all of that. I really don’t even wanna talk about it. I have a great opportunity to do some of the things I wanna do right now, and that’s what I’m going to do.”

Watch former NFL head coach Jon Gruden join The Dan Patrick Show in a rare interview appearance to discuss his ongoing lawsuit against the NFL regarding his firing from the Las Vegas Raiders in 2021, and his desires to get back into coaching at the NFL or college level.

Gruden, a former Super Bowl-winning head coach with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2003, filed a lawsuit in November of 2021 alleging that the NFL pressured him into resigning as Raiders coach after emails inconspicuously leaked that showed Gruden using written language that has been considered racist, sexist, and homophobic. Gruden told Dan Patrick that he doesn't have anything to say about his case besides it being 'in the court's hands.'

Gruden has not coached in the NFL since 2021, but did have an advisory role with the New Orleans Saints during the 2023 season to help with his former Raiders and current Saints quarterback Derek Carr beginning in Training Camp.

Check out the segment above as the 61-year-old Gruden, who is 117-112 for his career as a head coach, told Dan that he still wants to get back into coaching.
