Rob Parker and former NFL quarterback Shaun King (in for Kelvin Washington) debate the outlook on Patrick Mahomes' season so far. With Mahomes having thrown more interceptions than touchdown passes to this point, and many of his numbers being far behind his usual standards, Rob thinks other players around the league have little reason to be intimidated by the reigning Super Bowl MVP. Shaun disagrees, arguing that, from a pure quarterback standpoint, Mahomes has actually looked as good as he ever has throughout his career.
Rob Parker: "I get the respect factor with Patrick Mahomes, and I respect everything he's done in his career... but people have a hard time saying he's not playing well. He didn't play that well last year either during the regular season -- but he won a Super Bowl so nobody talked about it -- and this year he has more interceptions than touchdowns... They're like last in red zone efficiency. All the numbers across the board are shocking... I know they're 6-0, but their defense is great and all I'm saying is, he has not played well this year."
Shaun King: "I think he's as good as he's ever been. I'm not sure what size television you're watching these games on... The 67.9 completion percentage is the highest of his career. He's completing more balls at a rate higher than he ever has!... If you look at what's going on in Kansas City, the allocation of resources has been adjusted... They put their money into the two fronts and told Patrick they need him to manage the game and be great when it matters most, which he has done."
