The Atlanta Falcons have benched Kirk Cousins in favor of rookie QB Michael Penix Jr. and Dan thinks they are only exchanging one problem for another. On the one hand, if Penix doesn’t play well then the Falcons have a real problem at their QB position. On the other hand, if he actually does play well, they are still saddled with Kirk Cousins’ contract and the giant salary cap hit they would be stuck with for the washed-up play caller. It feels like they are in a no-win situation even if he manages to get them into the playoffs.
Dan Patrick: “You bench Kirk Cousins and, if Michael Penix doesn’t play well, now you have a problem. But if Michael Penix plays well, you still have a problem with that salary cap, you know, that dead cap money.”
