Isiah Thomas: Steph and I Changed The Game For Small Point Guards

Isiah Thomas and Magic Johnson
“Wait a minute Chris, so are you running? Rob did he just run?? C’mon where you at!!” – Isiah Thomas.

Listen to two-time NBA Champion and 12-time NBA All-Star Isiah Thomas join The Odd Couple to talk legacies concerning himself and Golden State Warriors superstar Steph Curry, as Steph continues to climb the ranks of greatest point guards of all time.

In this extremely candid interview, Isiah takes exception to Chris Broussard’s point guard rankings that have Steph as the second great PG ever, behind Magic Johnson, but ahead of Isiah. Isiah respects Broussard’s opinion and isn’t going to argue whether he’s better than Steph, but says he deserves the same credit Steph gets for ‘changing the game’.

Isiah says he revolutionized the point guard position, becoming the first small point guard under 6’2” who could win on the highest level while scoring the basketball AND distributing AND handling the ball. Isiah says the era before him had phased small PG's out of their game and the position had been owned by big PG's like Magic Johnson, Michael Ray Richardson, Reggie Theus, Paul Pressey, and Sidney Moncrief.

For all the praise his ‘Bad Boy’ Pistons got on the defensive end, Isiah says they were playing a similar brand of basketball 30 years ago as the Warriors play nowadays, with their ability to shoot threes of high pick and rolls with smaller guards, and also trout out a three-point shooter flex center like Bill Laimbeer.

Check out the awesome and animated segment below as Isiah has a few bones to pick with Chris Broussard as not even Rob Parker can get in the middle!
