Baker Mayfield Fires Back at Rex Ryan Calling Mayfield 'Overrated as Hell'

Watch Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield fire back at former NFL coach and current ESPN football analyst Rex Ryan after Ryan blasted the 1-2 Browns and called Mayfield 'Overrated as Hell.'

In an episode of ESPN's 'Get Up' program on Monday, Ryan chided the play-calling of Browns head coach Freddie Kitchens, which included a controversial running back draw on a fourth and 9 play in Rams territory with nine minutes to play. Ryan said of the play 'It was the worst call I've ever seen.'

Ryan then called Mayfield 'Overrated' and said he is a 'one-read' guy who is forced to improvise whenever his desired top target is covered. He said Mayfield is 'one of the slowest guys on the field', said he stares down wideouts, and added 'you're not that accurate down the field.'

Mayfield responded to Ryan's harsh comments at a Browns press conference on Wednesday, saying "It's whatever. In the wise words of Freddie Kitchens, 'If you don't wear orange and brown, you don't matter' and Rex Ryan isn't wearing any colors right now for a reason, so it's okay."

After a record-breaking rookie season where he broke the mark for rookie touchdown passes with 27, Mayfield leads the AFC in interceptions with 5, and ranks 22nd in the NFL in QBR.
