“UCLA feels like ‘We’re Duke, we’ve got this big Under Armour contract’. You are not Duke, Duke is the premiere program in the country. UCLA may have better weather and have a great global brand, but you’re not Duke, and you’re not Kentucky, and you’re not Kansas.”
Amid possible rumors about Steve Alford leaving UCLA for his alma mater Indiana, Colin Cowherd believes the possibility is very realistic, given UCLA’s mysteriously stingy negotiating when it comes to their coaches in football and basketball.
Cowherd says the UCLA athletic department pays their coaches in glamour, when in reality they’ve undercut their coaches brands for years, saying the school carries an ego when trying to gain leverage over candidates, thinking they can boss anyone around with 'UCLA' on their nameplate.
