LeBron James is a free agent in 2018 and he has a no-trade clause, so this is entirely hypothetical, but why wouldn't the Cavaliers want to bring something in before he bails for greener pastures after next season?
With all of the rumors surrounding LeBron and his desire to pursue life with another franchise between 2018 and 2019, he is almost an identical situation to Paul George and the Indiana Pacers. Only difference there is that the Pacers have explored the option of moving George, and the Cavaliers have seemingly not explored their options.
