The Ohio State Buckeyes defeated Notre Dame in yesterday’s College Football Playoff National Championship Game and Dan is mystified by Ohio State fans that are still hung up on their loss to Michigan back in December. With the road to a title expanded to 12 teams, and possibly more in the future, a single loss in the regular season just doesn’t hold the same weight. The loser of the biggest rivalry game in college football was effectively eliminated from contention until the CFP was expanded, but now it’s just another game.
Dan Patrick: “If you said to Ohio State fans, ‘You’re going to lose again to Michigan next year but you’re going to play for the National Championship,’ you have to play for a National Championship...Because it used to be, if you lost that game, you weren’t playing for a National Championship; that was the importance of it. Now with the 12-team playoff, 14-team playoff, 16-team playoff, OK, you lose bragging rights there but man, that National Title, that’ll cure everything."
