Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay revealed that the team explored a possible trade involving wide receiver Davante Adams but ultimately decided against it earlier in the offseason.

"If we felt like it was best for our team, we would have done that," McVay said during the NFL league meetings on Monday (March 30) via ESPN. "But we didn't think it was best for our team."

Adams, 33, a three-time first-team All-Pro and six-time Pro Bowler, led the NFL with 14 receiving touchdowns for the third time in his NFL career and is signed through the 2026 NFL season, having joined the Rams last offseason. McVay, 40, said the team has "discussions all the time" while addressing the discussions regarding Adams.

"We really talked about some different avenues of onboarding other players and how it might affect Davante," McVay said via ESPN.

The former Super Bowl champion coach confirmed that he talked to Adams about the trade conversations and said he believes the veteran receiver understands why the discussions took place.

"There's a lot of stuff that's out there that's not accurate, but when there is at least some accuracy or some thought to it, you want to deal with that direct, honest and open," McVay said via ESPN. "And there's been instances where I wasn't as good about that in previous years, and so I don't want to make those same mistakes.

"And he's a grown man, and I think he understood that this is a part of this business, but I think what he also understood is at the end of the day, you're a Ram because this is what's best and I'm excited to move forward with him."

The Rams were defeated by the eventual Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks, 31-27, in the NFC Championship Game in January, having previously split their two regular season matchups.
