Charles Barkley: High-Income Taxpayer Athletes Should Be Vaccinated First

Charles Barkley: “I think they should let the NBA players and coaches all get the vaccine, it’s just my personal opinion. We need 300 million shots, give 1,000 to NBA players, NFL players, hockey players… Listen, as much taxes as these players pay – and lemme repeat that – as much taxes as these players pay they deserve some preferential treatment.”

Kenny Smith:“For life and death?”

Barkley: “Yes.”

Outspoken TNT basketball analyst Charles Barkley made some eyebrow-raising remarks on Thursday night’s episode of ‘Inside the NBA’, where Barkley proclaimed that professional athletes should be jumping the line for COVID-19 vaccines because of the high amount of taxes that they pay.

Barkley and his co-hosts Kenny Smith, Shaquille O’Neal, and Ernie Johnson were doing a segment on how the NBA is navigating through the COVID-19 pandemic, and the tightening levels of restrictions they were levying their players when Barkley made the off-color remark.

Barkley’s remark of ‘as much taxes as these players pay, they deserve some preferential treatment’ drew surprise from his co-hosts, as Kenny quickly asked ‘For life and death?’ with Barkley emphatically responding ‘Yes.’

As of Thursday, January 14th, reportedly only 3.4% of the US population had received the first dose of the coronavirus vaccine.
