Ben Maller: “I have heard all the propaganda, I understand all the talking points -- ‘PITTSBURGH DOESN’T OPERATE THAT WAY! THAT’S NOT HOW THEY DO BUSINESS! THEY HAVEN’T FIRED A COACH SINCE 1968 AND THEY’RE NOT GOING TO START TODAY!’... All streaks come to an end. When I was a kid, I was told the Red Sox would never win the World Series because the ‘Curse of The Bambino’, and then they went out there and had a dynasty in the early-2000s. I was also told the Chicago Cubs could never win the World Series because the ‘Curse of the Billy Goat’, and then they went out and won a World Series. I was told the Dodgers would never win a World Series again, and then the Dodgers won the hardest World Series of all time in a global pandemic. All streaks come to an end. Do we love Mike Tomlin’s gift for gab? Absolutely. Tomlin has been wonderful for blowhards and gasbags. I get it, there are a lot of media totties that are running interference for Tomlin are the usual hardos like Rich Eisen and guys like that... ‘TOMLIN IS BEYOND REPROACH!’ ‘HE’S THE TEFLON DON!’... Truth be told, while we enjoy Tomlin and his loquacious ability with the microphone, regardless of that, is it not a popularity contest. If you’re not endangered after a five-game span losing to who Pittsburgh has lost to, then what are you – a college-tenured professor? You’ll never be in jeopardy. Tomlin is at the steering wheel right now of a maritime freight shipping vessel. It is the rudderless ship of chaos. It is wicked bad. The Steelers just became the first team in the modern era to be above. 500 in Week 13 or later, and then go out and ride the vomit comet in back-to-back games to teams with two or fewer wins. Pittsburgh is a house of horrors. It’s indefensible and it’s inexcusable. The Cardinals and Patriots are 2-0 against Mike Tomlin’s team over the past four days, and 4-20 against the field in the NFL. But ‘NO, TOMLIN ISN’T ON THE HOT SEAT!’... You gotta fire Tomlin if you lose back-to-back to the Cardinals and Patriots. Tomlin will get another job in five seconds but you gotta make that move.” (Full Segment Above)
Watch Ben Maller of Fox Sports Radio’s ‘Ben Maller Show’ explain why he thinks the Pittsburgh Steelers need to move on from long-time head coach Mike Tomlin coming off one of the worst weeks in franchise history losing to arguably the NFL’s two worst teams in succession.
Tomlin has established one of the most impressive streaks in professional sports, finishing .500 or better in 16 consecutive seasons, but the Steelers haven’t won a playoff game since 2016, and Tomlin is just 3-7 in the postseason since the Steelers lost in the Super Bowl to Aaron Rodgers and the Packers back in February of 2011.
Check out the segment above as Maller details why Pittsburgh’s over 50-year [1968] streak of never firing their head coach needs to end this year with Tomlin being canned.
