Doug Gottlieb: “OJ Simpson died from cancer. Um, good... Good... Good... It’s sad, but good. Not sad because he died from cancer, or that he had kids who are mourning the loss of their dad, I understand that, but this is a guy who would not give peace needed to the families of the two victims whose lives that I think most of us believe he ended. If you want to say he didn’t end their live -- if he didn’t, he damn sure knows who did. So, good...
And you got some people, and I’ll pull out my X account where ‘the Heisman Trophy Trust mourns the passing of the 1968 Heisman winner OJ Simpson. We extend sympathy to his family.’ That’s fine, but I said ‘nothing to mourn.’ Some dude named Cerrone Battle, who does NBC Sports in Boston and 985 the Sports Hub, he actually has 4.8 thousand followers, this was actually his tweet to me: ‘Why not? What did he do that makes him not worthy of being mourned?’... Like, really?
The power of the OJ documentary on ESPN, the power of the Jordan documentary on ESPN, in many times kind of sets the record straight of what really happened. But to those of us who lived it, we understand that that trial was about way more than a double murder. It was kind of a reckoning for police coming off, among other things, what happened with Rodney King.
There are others in this industry who they’ll tell me off-air like ‘man, you crushed that dude, I wanted to but I couldn’t because you know how the industry works...‘ Even if you’re right, people don’t like being called out. There is a show, I believe it’s a podcast, that has had OJ on several times. You are among the worst human beings to ever call yourselves media. You are not even worthy of being named. The whole idea of bringing him on is to bring attention to your podcast. If you need to bring OJ Simpson on to bring attention to your podcast, it’s just not worthy of. I’ve never talked about his tweets, his commentary, and I think the whole thing is disgusting. He murdered people in cold blood. And yeah, he was a great football player, there’s just no denying it, 2,000 yards in 14 games, but he murdered two people, including his ex-wife in cold blood. Then he was going to write a book ‘If I Did It.’ Oh, yeah, and he was supposed to spend the rest of his living days ‘trying to find those murderers.’ Unless they were on golf courses throughout the country or in sports bars recently, he didn’t come up with anything.
I feel no sympathy, I don’t mourn, and I would encourage you as well to not mourn. It’s always interesting to see how people handle it, but a lot of people who are 35 and younger just don’t understand. And that’s OK, it’s our job as people that were alive and that understood all the ramifications of it to fill you in on what it’s actually about and what was actually going on.
I don’t feel sympathy for O.J. Simpson. Sorry, not something I feel at all.”
Watch Doug Gottlieb of Fox Sports Radio’s The Doug Gottlieb Show discuss Thursday’s news of the passing of O.J. Simpson at the age of 76 from cancer, as Gottlieb takes offense to anyone trying to ‘remember’ or ‘mourn’ Simpson as anything other than a cold-blooded murderer.
Simpson became the first player in NFL history to rush for over 2,000 yards in a single season back in 1973 with the Buffalo Bills, and at one time in the 80’s and early 90’s was one of the most charismatic and charming members of the mainstream media, but his 1994 double-murder trial involving his ex-wife Nicole Brown, one that legal experts nearly unanimously agree should have led to a guilty verdict, has obviously made Simpson one of the most reviled public figures in American history.
Check out the segment above as Gottlieb details why no one should be ‘mourning’ the loss of Simpson on Thursday, saying that any media company that has tried to profit off Simpson’s infamy through random interview appearances throughout the years are 'among the worst human beings to ever call yourselves media.'
