Are We Vastly Overrating Clemson Quarterback Trevor Lawrence?

Texas A&M v Clemson
RJ Bell: “Jimmy Garoppolo played 1.5 games the year Tom Brady had his suspension and then got hurt, then he got traded and played five a half games in garbage time and then the next year got hurt after two and a half games… THEN signed the biggest contract in NFL history. Trevor Lawrence has already been deemed one of the greats. Whenever the data isn’t there and the narrative is so one-sided, BE SKEPTICAL, that’s my advice.” (Full Audio at Bottom of Page)

Listen to RJ Bell and Steve Fezzik discuss the career parallels between San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo and Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence.

Garoppolo is one of the league’s biggest enigmas and really is probably one of the most fortunate players in the NFL as well. San Francisco shockingly handed Garoppolo a five-year deal worth $137.5 million in 2018 despite having only started seven games in the NFL. At the time, it was the richest quarterback deal ever signed in league history.

Lawrence led the Clemson Tigers to a dominant undefeated season last year, including their noteworthy blowout of Alabama in the title game, but has gotten off to a terrible start this season, having thrown more interceptions this year (5) than he did all of last season (4).

Check out the audio below as RJ hopes we didn’t jump the gun in anointing Lawrence the next great quarterback, much like the 49ers anointed Jimmy G their franchise QB, as even Fox Sports’ Colin Cowherd said Lawrence might be the best quarterback prospect of his life.
