Colin Cowherd: Aaron Rodgers' Career is Now Defined By Playing Too Safe

Colin Cowherd: “Aaron Rodgers has become too ‘SAFE’. He led the NFL in throwaways and he doesn’t throw interceptions. His QBR in the last 4 years? He’s not a top 10 quarterback. We know he’s talented but Aaron has to take BIG swings this weekend. Last week Minnesota played scared and Kirk Cousins check downed; NO big shot down the field, and too run-centric. Four to 5 years ago he became paralyzed by not throwing picks and throwing it away. Aaron, you gotta throw to more than just Davante Adams. Who gives a rip that he doesn’t throw picks anymore? In the only year Aaron had double-digit picks he won the Super Bowl. He used to have a little gun-slinger in him but no longer does like Patrick Mahomes does. You’re not beating San Francisco unless you’re rolling the dice. Hey Aaron, if you throw 3 picks this weekend and lose a wild one, you’re STILL going to the Hall of Fame first ballot and you’re not losing your State Farm commercials.” (Full Video Above)

Listen to Colin Cowherd explain why he thinks Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers has become way too conservative a player at age 36, as Colin says the Packers are walking into a raid if they believe they can win with a ‘play it safe’ quarterback who won’t push the ball down the field.

Even though Rodgers finished with another All-Pro caliber statical season at first glance with 26 touchdown passes compared to only 4 interceptions, Rodgers ranked just 21st in QBR, behind players the likes of Ryan Fitzpatrick, Ryan Tannehill, Jameis Winston, Kyler Murray, Daniel Jones, Baker Mayfield, and Jacoby Brissett.

Colin says Rodgers has become so consumed with his all-time leading career passer rating that he now refuses to push the ball down the field in immense fear that he’ll throw interceptions and lower his rating and fall in the all-time standings behind Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson, (101.2) who is right below Rodgers (102.4) at two.

Colin points out that the last time Rodgers threw double-digit interceptions was during his lone Super Bowl season of 2011.

Check out the video above as Colin details why Rodgers must play like a gun-slinger if the Packers have any shot to beat the 49ers this weekend.
