Colin Cowherd: Cowboys Have No Choice But to Franchise Tag Dak Prescott

Listen to Colin Cowherd explain why he thinks the Dallas Cowboys should place the franchise tag on starting quarterback Dak Prescott, as the 26-year-old uncomfortably awaits free agency as one of the league’s most polarizing players.

On side of the aisle, there is the group who thinks Prescott is a Pro Bowl quarterback and well within the top 15 when it comes to ranking QBs. Prescott is 40-24 for his career since 2016, and has a touchdown-to-interception ratio of 97/36 in four seasons. Last year, Prescott finished the season ranked 2nd in passing yards and 4th in QBR.

Then there are the people who think Dak is simply the recipient of an elite Cowboys supporting cast that boasts arguably the best offensive line in the league, an All-Pro running back, Pro Bowl wide receivers, and backed by a defense loaded with playmakers.

During a tumultuous 2019 for the NFC East Division that featured two cratering franchises with rookie quarterbacks, New York and Washington, and a Philadelphia Eagles team dealing with perhaps the worst injuries in the NFL, Dak was only able to muster an 8-8 season, and playoff-less year in a season where the division crown appeared easily in their grasps.

Check out the video above as Colin details why he doesn’t think the Cowboys can go any higher than a franchise tag.
