Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving's Legacies Will be at Stake Next Season

Doug Gottlieb: “The Nets have been really good and really fun to watch and everyone seems to come away with the same conclusion: ‘I hope Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving don’t screw this thing up.’ Kyrie is arguably the best finishing guard in the league, but LeBron couldn’t wait to get rid of him in Cleveland, he goes to Boston and they’re better without him than with him, and now in Brooklyn they’re having a ton of fun without him again. Then he had the balls to say they don’t have enough good players to win a championship, and guys in the room we’re like ‘you know we can all read here, right?’… Kevin Durant is really well-liked, but not as respected because of his moves. He had to join the Warriors in order to win two championships. He’s awesome but he gave up a 3-1 lead when he was in Oklahoma City… We have all seen what Brooklyn has built and how they truly like to play without those guys. If you add them both and it’s a disaster it is not good for their legacy… This next year will be a year that defines the longtime lasting legacy of two guys who will be in the Hall of Fame, but two guys who have strange issues in terms of their past teams and past relationships.” (Full Segment Above)

Listen to Doug Gottlieb explain why he thinks next season will be an extremely important year for Kevin Durant as Kyrie Irving, as Doug believes the striking success down in Orlando’s Bubble from a suddenly competitive Brooklyn Nets team could be putting a lot of pressure on the team’s superstar duo to win big next year.

Despite having Irving and Durant absent at the Bubble, the Nets went 5-3 down the stretch, beat the Bucks and Clippers in games Kawhi Leonard and Giannis Antetokounmpo both played in, and lost at the buzzer to the Blazers in a nationally televised elimination game for Portland.

Check out the video above as Gottlieb details why next season could irreparably damage the legacies of Durant and Irving if the team heavily underachieves and doesn’t build upon their momentum at the Bubble, as Gottlieb thinks the Nets could soon regret bringing in the two controversial figures.
