Clay Travis: NBA is Losing Fans at Record Pace By Pushing WOKE Politics

Clay Travis: “The NBA ratings are tanking. I saw an article in The Athletic by Ethan Strauss where he pointed out that in the last 8 years the NBA has lost half of its viewership. Everybody out there who is all social justice WOKE is trying to hide the facts… Last Friday, more people watched ’90 Day Fiancé’ on cable than any NBA game… I think there would be a ton of booing going on in the NBA if there were fans present for their playoffs with the way players are performing before games start… I don’t think you gain any fans at all by protesting the National Anthem… Jason Whitlock had a good column about this. I understand your argument if you’re like ‘I don’t care if the players kneel, I’ll just ignore it and put it on five minutes after the game starts’, but when ‘Black Lives Matter’ is written on the court, and when every player has social justice warrior slogans on their jersey I think it’s impossible NOT to notice. Not to mention, all of the WOKE commercials genuinely drive me crazy. Every time the NBA goes to commercial I flip to another sporting event just because the commercials are so insanely preachy-WOKE. Even in the commercial break I’m being lectured to about politics. I think there is a huge percentage of people who are otherwise very interested in watching the NBA that are saying ‘PEACE OUT, I’m not watching’ because it’s impossible to not be overwhelmed by politics. It’s bad for the brand and the number of viewers are going to tank... I think the NBA is in for a rude awakening as they recognize where they really stand in the American sporting landscape, and it ain’t anywhere near where they think it is. ” (Full Segment Above)

Listen to Clay Travis explain why he thinks the NBA’s television ratings have been eerily low this postseason, as Clay firmly believes it has to do with the league effectively having split its television broadcasts between the showcasing of ‘WOKE’ social justice angles, and politics from a left-leaning perspective, that is anchored around NBA players kneeling during the National Anthem before every game.

Check out the segment above as Clay details why he thinks the NBA is greatly damaging its brand by embracing politics, and openly focusing on polarizing non-basketball narratives from one point of view.
