Jason Smith: “What concerns me is that Ben Roethlisberger just doesn’t look like the same quarterback. Hopefully it’s a ‘dead arm’ spot for him, and a ‘I gotta fight past this’, but he could not throw the football today. He got bailed out by the fact his receivers are incredibly athletic and are so talented. Anybody would fall all over themselves to have Johnson, Ebron, Claypool, Smith-Schuster, and Washington. These guys are terrific. Roethlisberger completed two long passes today. He completed one for 50 yards, and one for 30. The 50-yard pass was a 15-yard out that he threw to Washington who made the DB miss, and he took it to the house. The big ‘indictment pass’ where I said ‘here come the alarm bells’ was the pass he threw to Chase Claypool – a 30-yard pass that he just chucked up in the middle of the field, and luckily Claypool was able to get around the DB, and come down with it. He couldn’t throw the ball deep, and the deep ball was missing from the Steelers’ repertoire. He couldn’t put any zip on the ball, and he was throwing the ball two yards past the line of scrimmage for most of the game. Juju Smith-Schuster caught 7 balls for 28 yards! Roethlisberger has no zip on the ball, and he’s not the same quarterback. This better be it and this is just a temporary thing, because if his arm is really dead here at this point in the season and he has trouble throwing the ball, the Steelers aren’t going anywhere. They’re going to play their first playoff game and get knocked out, and no one is going to be surprised… Every throw was lollipopped and there was so much air on every throw that he made. That’s red flag stuff, and makes you wonder ‘Is Roethlisberger okay??’” (Full Audio Above)
Listen to Jason Smith explain why he’s worried about Ben Roethlisberger’s ‘dead arm’, and why he was surprised by how weak Roethlisberger’s arm looked in their shocking upset loss to the 7-loss Washington Football Team.
Check out the audio above as Smith has doubts to the Steelers even being able to win one single playoff game if this ‘lollipop armed’ Big Ben is the new normal for number 7.
