Colin Cowherd: “You really think Justin Fields is the future? He’s 10-28. Really?? Seven starts to finish the season – five passing touchdowns and three picks. That’s with a good number one receiver, a good number one tight end, and a good enough o-line. Stop trying to convince yourself that you see something that isn’t there. He doesn’t throw the ball accurately enough. First CJ Stroud throw of the game vs. Indianapolis on the road in a ‘win and get in’ game we knew he was a franchise quarterback... CJ Stroud’s final drive of the game – 7 for 7 with crazy throws. First play, last drive -- ‘oh, that’s what a franchise quarterback looks like.’ Jordan Love this season threw for more passing touchdowns and more yards than any Chicago Bears quarterback EVER. Chicago doesn’t do quarterbacks well, so what Chicago has to do is get a quarterback so gifted – a Josh Allen, a Lamar – that they can overcome a lot of the Chicago heritage and nonsense. When I watch Justin Fields I see a talent, I see an athlete, and there’s a market for him, but I don’t see a franchise guy. If you look around [the NFC North], Goff isn’t going anywhere, Minnesota has Cousins at worst, Jordan Love with those receivers – you're going to be in shootouts. Ten and 28? I don’t see it. Nice kid, I think there’s going to be a market, but he’s not good enough to overcome Chicago’s bumpy and turbulent quarterback history, and you’re going to have to make a decision by next year if you’re paying him. Caleb Williams is a great prospect, you get another chance at a star quarterback, I don’t see how you pass it up. Good kid, says the right stuff, got talent, big and strong, but 10-28, what do you want me to do after 38 starts??” (Full Segment Above)
Watch Colin Cowherd of FS1’s The Herd explain why he thinks the Chicago Bears must move off third-year former first round pick Justin Fields to pursue USC quarterback Caleb Williams with the number one overall pick in this April’s 2024 NFL Draft.
Check out the video above as Colin details why he doesn’t believe Fields is a ‘franchise guy’, citing that Fields has gone just 10-28 in three seasons as a starter, and is inching towards the point of no return when it comes to the former Ohio State star seeking a lucrative contract extension.
