Clay Travis on the Low NBA Finals Television Ratings: 'Go Woke, Go Broke'

Clay Travis: “It’s a certainty, if you get ‘Woke’ in the world of sports and you are a sports league, you end up going BROKE, and that’s what’s happened with the NBA. They narrowly managed to avoid an all-time low NBA Finals Game 1 rating… Why are NBA ratings down so massively at a time when most other sports leagues have recovered in a substantial way? It’s because the league went broke when they went woke, it’s not difficult to understand. They wrote ‘Black Lives Matter’ on the basketball court, they put social justice warrior slogans on their jerseys, they told you that you were an awful human being if you were voting Republican or supported Donald Trump, which many, believe it or not, NBA fans were doing. As a result, the number of viewers is the lowest it’s ever been for a summer NBA Finals that we’ve ever seen in any of our lives. I don’t know how it’s going to recover unless we get in some way a full-on apology from the NBA for all the people who they insulted as a part of their woke politics embrace… Game 1 of the NBA Finals averaged 8.5 million viewers, that’s down 35% vs. 2019, which was the last time we had an NBA Finals taking place in the summer. That was the Warriors going up against the Raptors, and remember, you don’t count viewership in Canada. It’s down a full 50% compared to Game 1 of the last time we had two United States-based NBA teams in the playoffs. This is a catastrophic decline and an unmitigated disaster for the NBA.” (Full Video Above)

Listen to Clay Travis of Outkick the Coverage discuss the NBA’s teetering Finals ratings and explain why he believes the league is still feeling the effects from its coverage last year at the bubble in Orlando when Clay says the networks pushed a heavily left-leaning ‘WOKE’ agenda that immediately alienated a large portion of its fan base.

The 2021 ratings were higher than they were last year when the league was putting on a fanless neutral court event during NFL season, but are down 35% from 2019 and a full 50% from 2018.
