The NBA is reportedly investigating Brooklyn Nets star Kyrie Irving over videos purportedly showing him partying without a mask. The videos, which were shared on social media on Monday, were reportedly taken during a birthday celebration for Irving's sister Asia. In the videos, Irivnig can be seen standing behind his sister as she blows out candles on her birthday cake while a crowd of people cheers and claps.
If the videos are determined to be recent, Iriving could face discipline for violating the league's COVID-19 protocols, which ban players from going out to bars and clubs and from attending social gatherings with more than 15 people in attendance.
The videos come as Irving has missed the last three games for undisclosed personal reasons. The Nets do not expect Irving to return to the lineup anytime soon. He is not expected to play this week, and the team believes he may not be back next week. The Nets have gone 1-2 in his absence, falling under .500 with a 5-6 record on the season.
The Nets have not provided any specific details about Irving's absence, but he has support from his teammates.
"I won't speak on Kyrie. I'll let him do that for himself," Kevin Durant told reporters. "I'm sure you guys will see him soon whenever he comes back. We support him 100 percent and pray for the best."
