Tigers Woods is not expected to face charges following a serious car crash in Los Angeles on Tuesday (February 23). Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva said there was no evidence that Woods was impaired behind the wheel and said it was nothing more than a car accident.
"We don't contemplate any charges whatsoever in this crash. This remains an accident. Accident is not a crime. They do happen, unfortunately," Villanueva said.
He said that investigators did not take a blood sample from Tiger because he was not showing any signs of impairment when officers arrived at the scene of the crash.
Authorities are still working to figure out the cause of the accident, and Villanueva said officials have been unable to determine if the vehicle, a 2021 Genesis SUV, was equipped with a black box that might indicate how fast Woods was driving at the time of the crash.
Villanueva added that the road where Woods crashed has been the scene of multiple accidents. In the past 14 months, there have been 13 crashes, including four with injuries.
Woods remains hospitalized after undergoing surgery to insert a rod into his leg, which was fractured in the accident. Surgeons also used pins and screws to repair his ankle, which was shattered.
