Colin Cowherd: “Let’s pivot to some realistic concerns. The headline this morning read ‘Dak Prescott Becomes Highest Paid Player in League History’. [GULP] That is not a recipe for Super Bowls. We have a recipe for Super Bowls: young quarterbacks on rookie deals, and great quarterbacks on team-friendly deals. ‘Good’ quarterbacks making ‘GREAT’ money does not win Super Bowls. People say ‘the cap is going up!’ People, the cap has gone up the last 25 years, and it’s gone up 24 times… It’s going up but it doesn’t jump up overnight… I have never once regretted paying ‘great’ for ‘GREAT’. House, education, experience, ski trip, but paying ‘great’ for ‘good’ I almost always regret. Dak is GOOD, but Mahomes is GREAT. I would never have a problem playing Rodgers, Russell, or Mahomes great money because 'great' is a different galaxy than 'good'… Dak’s contract never in the next four years is going to feel like ‘WOO! WE STOLE HIM! MAN, THIS IS TEAM-FRIENDLY!’ The Cowboys right now have 7 players that are 'good' and they pay them 'great'. That’s not good, and you also have a coach who’s ‘ehhh’, a GM who is 78 and your owner. I DON’T LOVE IT. I can be happy for the guy and not think it will help him win playoff games… Dak has one playoff win when they were paying him $600,000, and a year from now they’ll be paying him $39.5 million… Dallas now has five guys paid in the top 5 of their position. I don’t think any of them are in the top 5 as talent.” (Full Video Above)
Listen to Colin Cowherd explain why he doesn’t think the Cowboys and their fans should be too thrilled about the team inking Dak Prescott to a four-year, $160 million deal, as Colin says the recipe for a Super Bowl is not signing ‘GOOD’ players to ‘GREAT’ deals.
