Ric Bucher: Kawhi Leonard Will Never Be the 'Leader' of a Championship Team

Jason Smith: “If the Clippers lose this series is Kawhi Leonard on a new team next year?”

Ric Bucher: “Where is he going to go? He’s going to have to go someplace where you have leadership. In retrospect if you look at the championship in Toronto or San Antonio you realize that you had the Manu Ginobilis and the Tim Duncans, and the Kyle Lowrys and the Fred VanVleets. It makes you realize that sure, Kawhi can be a part of a championship team, but he’s not going to be the LEADER of a championship team. I don’t see how anybody could make that case based on what we’ve seen the last two years. It’s been there for the taking for him and he simply to this point has not stepped up.”

Listen to Fox Sports NBA insider Ric Bucher explain to Jason Smith and Mike Harmon why he doesn’t think Kawhi Leonard has the ability to ever be the ‘leader’ of a championship team, saying guys like Tim Duncan and Manu Ginobili carried the load in San Antonio, and Kyle Lowry and Fred VanVleet did the same thing in Toronto when they won titles with Leonard.
