Simone Biles Shockingly Withdraws From Gymnastics Team Event in Tokyo

Simone Biles has pulled out of the Olympic team final.

On Tuesday, the reigning Olympic champion left the team competition after struggling to land a vault.

"Simone has withdrawn from the team final competition due to a medical issue," USA Gymnastics spokeswoman Carol Fabrizioconfirmed to USA Today. "She will be assessed daily to determine medical clearance for future competitions."

According to the outlet, the gymnastics superstar exited the competition floor with the team's medical trainer moments after she struggled to land a vault — she bailed on an Amanar, one of her more difficult vaults — during the team’s first event of the day.

The U.S. women's team will now have to finish the rest of the competition without her, relying on their three remaining gymnasts – Grace McCallum, Sunisa Lee, and reserve Jordan Chiles.

UPDATE (7/27 11 a.m. ET): Simone has revealed why she withdrew from the team final. See her statement HERE.
