Why Cowboys Fans Should Get Used to Dak Prescott's Recent Slump

Colin Cowherd: “Is it a slump or is this just what Dak is when running backs aren’t healthy? That’s the thing about Dak – we all like Dak and he’s tough. They’re taking him off the field with an injury and you have grown men crying. He’s likeable and his intangibles and his leadership is off the charts, but he’s never been a pretty thrower. We’re all talking about slumps, but there is a difference between ‘slumps’ and ‘reality.’ In the first 10 weeks the Cowboys averaged 140 rushing yards a game – that would make any quarterback better, Dak was getting MVP talk. The last four games Dallas is 21st in rushing because of injuries and Dak is in a slump. It’s not a slump, Dak is highly reliant on a good running game. Dak’s best season, 13-3, was when Zeke was the best running back in the league. Since that, when he doesn’t get 100+ rushing yards of support Dak is 7-16. When you actually watch the games, Dak doesn’t throw the ball like Mahomes, Justin Herbert, Josh Allen, Tom Brady, Stafford, or Aaron Rodgers, he’s not an artistic thrower. It’s always been his tangibles are never as good as his intangibles. Dak is simply a product of his environment, and so are 80% of the quarterbacks in this league. Some guys are hyper-athletic, some have incredible arm talent, Dak is more about his environment. I don’t think he’s in a slump, I think he needs Zeke and Tony Pollard to get healthy and then he’ll be fine. When I see Dak I think ‘he’s really good, he does a good job. I don’t think he’s special.’ It’s not a slump, all the numbers tell you exactly what it is – if he gets an ‘A’ running game he’s very, very good. If he doesn’t he’s just ‘OK’. (Full Video Above)

Listen to Colin Cowherd explain why he doesn’t think Dak Prescott’s poor play the last month has anything to do with a ‘slump’, but rather a system-dependent quarterback not getting the running game he needs to help out his underwhelming throwing ability.
