Jason Whitlock: “Dallas’ $40 million a year quarterback is worth half as much as Tom Brady, but is paid twice as much as the 7-time Super Bowl champion. Brady charged the Bucs $15 million this season for his services. Brady has always played for less money than he’s worth because he’s always prioritized winning above salary. Brady is self-aware. The 199th pick has never forgotten that he needs to be surrounded by a high talent level to win games, and he left New England because they wouldn’t buy him the talent he needed to excel. Dak Prescott on the other hand is going to regret forcing Jerry Jones to give him a $160 million contract a year ago. That big contract comes with big expectations and a lack of sympathy. Prescott is no longer the Mississippi State underdog who unseeded Tony Romo in 2016. Prescott is an overpaid, average quarterback who doesn’t mask the deficiencies of his teammates or coaches. There is nothing special about Dak Prescott. He is a very poor man’s Tom Brady who is being paid like he’s Lamar Jackson or Josh Allen. Prescott is one of the ten highest-paid quarterbacks in the NFL, he’s supposed to mask problems, not extenuate them. On Sunday night Prescott EXAGGERATED Dallas’ problems. The guy is inaccurate, he completed less than half of his passes [in Week 1], and his arm strength isn’t exceptional. He’s not a dynamic runner. He’s Tom Brady without Tom Brady’s intangibles. Brady’s no. 1 intangible is self-awareness. Being married to a filthy rich supermodel makes it easier for Brady to compromise on his NFL contract, I get that, but at some point a quarterback like Prescott needed to figure out an extra $5-$10 million a year wasn’t going to be worth the raised expectations. Cowboys fans wouldn’t be booing Prescott if he was the 15th highest-paid QB rather than the 8th. You don’t pay guys $40 million who can’t go out and win games by themselves, and those guys shouldn’t want it. Tom Brady knows exactly who he is and that’s why he hasn’t been overpaid one season in his career. Dak doesn’t carry Dallas. He makes the ride smooth when the Cowboys have the necessary pieces to roll, but Dallas doesn’t have the necessary pieces. Prescott’s broken thumb is the luckiest break he caught against Tampa. He now has an excuse for a poor season. Greed and ego, that is what undermined Dak Prescott. His greed and ego, and his agent’s greed and ego. This is not 20/20 hindsight, I said it the entire time – DON’T PAY DAK. Don’t give him too much money. Once those expectations elevate it’s going to elevate for his teammates, it’s going to elevate for the fan base, and the next thing you know he’s going to be sitting on a bunch of money and be miserable. Dak Prescott is a nice guy, he’s a great guy, he’s just getting paid too much money for his limited amount of talent.” (Full Segment Above)
