Bengals Are Better Off Trading First Overall Pick, Passing on Joe Burrow

Doug Gottlieb: “Joe Burrow is going to be the number one overall pick but SHOULD he be?? Burrow doesn’t have a plus-plus arm and doesn’t have plus-plus hand size. I’m not saying he’s not going to be a great quarterback, but he’s not a home run, especially in Cincinnati. He’s got mobility and got the brains, but he was also older than the competition he was playing against, and was playing with a ridiculous amount of talent around him. Now he’ll be on a talent bereft team in terrible weather, and domes make everything look better. If you want to rebuild this thing to where it was when you were consistently winning, what do you need? VALUE IN THE DRAFT… Justin Herbert is bigger, stronger, and throws like he’s firing a Howitzer cannon.” (Full Video Above)

Listen to Doug Gottlieb explain why he believes the Cincinnati Bengals should shop their number one pick and end up passing on LSU quarterback Joe Burrow in the process.

The Heisman trophy and National Championship winning quarterback is certainly the most accomplished of the first round-graded quarterbacks in Tua Tagovailoa, Justin Herbert, Jordan Love, and Jacob Eason, but there have been many in the media who have questioned Burrow’s raw talents, especially with his arm strength.

Gottlieb discusses the Eli Manning/Philip Rivers trade in 2004 and says he thought the Chargers ended up getting the better deal considering the swap also included picks that the Chargers would end up using on All-Pros Shawne Merriman and Nate Kaeding, and says the Bengals could acquire a lofty trade package while still being able to draft a quarterback in the first round who could handle the demanding weather conditions of the AFC North Division.

Check out the video above as Gottlieb details why the Bengals shouldn’t just automatically settle for drafting Burrow at no. 1 in the upcoming 2020 NFL Draft in late April.
