Jason Whitlock: LeBron Has Forever 'Diminished' Sports By Pushing Politics

Clay Travis: “What is LeBron James’ legacy going to be?”

Jason Whitlock: “What the ACCURATE legacy should be is that LeBron’s choices ended up diminishing all of sports. His choice to bring politics to the forefront of sports ended up diminishing all of sports. That will be the accurate legacy that will supersede and overshadow all of his accomplishments. The three or four championships he may win, or three, four, or five MVP trophies he’s won will all be overshadowed by the fact he brought politics in sports in a major way, and that ended up decreasing the popularity of ALL sports. That’s quite a legacy, and quite a damning legacy, but I think it’s accurate… I don’t know how they walk this back, and I think Zion Williamson would have to become the star of the NBA and take a completely different position than LeBron James, and pivot back into that Jordan lane…Here’s what I think what would be brave for a Black athlete to do that would be authentic and non-political, and would start a discussion… If Zion Williamson, Kevin Durant, Kawhi Leonard; if anybody came out and said ‘the police do an excellent job, we need the police in our communities, and the real issue that concerns me coming from an inner-city community is the amount of black-on-black violence that is destroying so many of our young people, and I would like to see us as an NBA family raise awareness, and start coming up with ways to address the violence that is ravaging our communities.’ That would be brave, authentic, would make that guy a superstar, and would make a lot of people want to support him. If the NBA went down that path I think a lot of people would jump back on board with the NBA… LeBron talking about this ‘fear’ and being ‘terrified’ – that’s a real issue, but it’s not fear of the police. Kids are traumatized. They shouldn’t see a dead body in their neighborhood. It needs to be addressed, and we need to reduce that trauma. Pretending like the trauma is being inflicted by the police on a massive scale is a joke, it’s dishonest, and it’s a disservice to Black kids. I wish some athlete would step out there and tell the damn truth so we can actually make some progress on the real issues.” (Full Segment Above)

Listen to Jason Whitlock join Outkick the Coverage and explain why he thinks LeBron James’ lasting legacy will actually be a negative one, as Whitlock believe LeBron will go down as the athlete who forever ‘diminished’ professional sports by incessantly pushing politics during his playing career, and willingly infusing society with fictionalized antagonism and polarization.

Check out the audio above as Whitlock details to Clay Travis why he thinks LeBron has peddled ‘lies’ most of his career, and made a name for himself flaming ‘bogus narratives’ that just incited more resentment towards the NBA, and athletes in general.
