Clay Travis: Colin Kaepernick’s High Madden Rating Will Turn Off Consumers
Clay Travis: “When you score a touchdown with Colin Kaepernick and choose his celebration he doesn’t a ‘Black Power’ fist. I’m not going to buy the game for my kids, and I’m deciding Live on the radio. They can play Madden 20. This is just ridiculous propaganda. The dude is not remotely good enough to be a starting quarterback on a decent team in the NFL. He hasn’t played in four years and the Madden people decide that they’re going to tell you that he’s better than Kyler Murray, Cam Newton, Ryan Tannehill, and Jared Goff, that he's on the same level as Ben Roethlisberger, and that he’s suddenly five points better than he was the last year they had him playing in the game when he was beaten out by Blaine Gabbert... Is this anything other than blatant pathetic propaganda by Madden? It’s absurd. I gotta imagine that the majority of parents that are listening to me right now are in the same position I am where you don’t want to buy this video game for your kids because it’s blatant propaganda. Why in the world would EA Sports decide that they want to alienate people who are otherwise going to pay them $60? This is another example on why going woke is so dumb. There are a lot of parents like me out there that are going to choose to spend their money elsewhere… It’s virtue-signaling taken to the extreme which is unfortunately the standard all of the sudden in the world of sports, and it’s crushing ratings. The more woke you are, the more broke your ratings get.” (Full Segment Above)

Listen to Clay Travis explain why he thinks Madden 2021’s decision to elevate former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick into their game will ultimately hurt sales among parents buying the game for their children, as Clay believes parents will be turned off by EA Sports attempt to politicize the game with Kaepernick’s inflated 81 rating that will feature Kaepernick doing ‘Black Power’ salutes as his endzone celebration.

Despite having not appeared in an NFL game since January 1st, 2017, during a season in which he went 1-10, EA Sports tabbed Kaepernick with an 81 rating, which is higher than Cam Newton, Kyler Murray, Jared Goff, Derek Carr, Ryan Tannehill, Daniel Jones, Sam Darnold, and Teddy Bridgewater. Kaepernick was last included in Madden 2017, in which he was only a 76 rating.
