2020 NFL Gambling Previews According to Vegas Sharps: New Orleans Saints

The Saints once again suffered through a tragically traumatic playoff exit last season, as the franchise has now stunningly watched three consecutive seasons end on the last play of a postseason game.

It seemed like an awfully unfortunate waste of another 13-win season that would ultimately turn out to be a one-and-done at the hands of playoff plebeian Kirk Cousins of all people.

With 41-year-old Drew Brees recently admitting that he’s on ‘borrowed time’ when it comes to his mortality in the league, you have to figure this might be the final shot Brees has at winning a Super Bowl.

Brees is already set as a ‘commentator-in-waiting’ to join NBC’s Sunday Night Football booth the moment he retires, and although he led the league in completion percentage in 2019, his yards per completion was his lowest since 2010, and the second lowest of his 14-career in New Orleans, as the team seemed adamant about no longer throwing the ball down the field.

Game manager Teddy Bridgewater went a perfect 5-0 filling in for Brees when he injured his thumb, while only averaging 153.8 passing yards per game in that same span.

The team’s signing of Jameis Winston in the offseason fresh off leading the NFL in passing yards could be a sign that the team could potentially have an heir apparent to Brees, and at the very least as a stop gap if Brees calls it a career after this season.

In the offseason the Saints added the aforementioned Winston from the Bucs, running back Ty Montgomery from the Jets, wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders from the 49ers, safety Malcolm Jenkins from the Eagles, and they drafted Michigan center Cesar Ruiz in the first round.

Their key losses included Bridgewater, Ted Ginn Jr., Larry Warford, AJ Klein, Eli Apple, and Vonn Bell.

The Saints' over/under for wins is 10.5, their odds to win the Super Bowl are 10/1, their odds to win the NFC are 5-1, their odds to win the NFC South are 5/7, and they're -350 to make the playoffs.
