Listen to NFL Vegas sharps RJ Bell and Steve Fezzik join co-host Jonas Knox on ‘Straight Outta Vegas’ to preview the 7th ranked team on their 2020 win/total prediction rankings, the Philadelphia Eagles.
The Eagles roll into 2020 with very uncertain expectations just a season after a rather miraculous postseason berth that saw the team win their final four regular season games in the face of rampant injuries to shockingly (but predictably) knock the Cowboys out of playoff contention on the season’s final day.
Their top three targets (Alshon Jeffery, Desean Jackson, and Nelson Agholor) missed a combined 24 games last year as Carson Wentz pulled off one of the most impressive feats of his career in 2019, working with a patchwork receiving corps to average 299.8 passing yards in his final 4 games, including 7 touchdowns, and 0 interceptions.
Philly would eventually bow out harmlessly in the Wild Card Round to Seattle in a game Wentz was knocked out early in with a head injury.
The Eagles would go on to draft three wide receivers in the 2020 NFL Draft, and also make quite a stir drafting former Alabama and Oklahoma quarterback Jalen Hurts in the third round, in a bold, yet bizarre attempt to alleviate their two biggest injury liability positions in 2019.
Key acquisitions for the Eagles were defensive tackle Javon Hargrave from the Steelers, cornerback Darius Slay from the Lions, cornerback Nickell Robey-Coleman from the Rams, and safety Will Parks from the Broncos.
Notable losses included, Jordan Howard, Darren Sproles, the aforementioned Agholor, Halapoulivaati Vaitai, Nigel Bradham, Ronald Darby, and Malcolm Jenkins, and three-time Pro Bowl right guard Brandon Brooks will miss the season after tearing his ACL in June.
Their Over/Under for wins is 9.5, their odds to win the Super Bowl are 25/1, their odds to win the NFC are 12/1, their odds to win the NFC East are 2/1, and they’re -188 to make the playoffs.
