Why Giannis Antetokounmpo Isn't as Valuable of a Player As We Once Thought

Colin Cowherd: “Just because something is great over an extended period of time, doesn’t mean it always feels right, works the best, or makes you feel better, and that’s the Milwaukee Bucks and Giannis. He has a ‘physical presence’ and over the course of an 82-game schedule Giannis is going to block a lot of shots, get you a lot of easy baskets – he’s absolutely a franchise player. But short-term in a series, situationally? Gotta be honest, Milwaukee’s offense in a couple of games vs. Atlanta without him was smoother and the ball movement was excellent. This happens all the time and it’s not just Giannis. You get to the playoffs and basketball changes. The officials let more go – that’s hurt James Harden and Karl Malone, players who needed the whistle. They were great players who you loved to have on your franchise, but sometimes there was a better teammate in a moment in the playoffs than Malone or James Harden. The Bucks have fallen into a trap. Giannis is your best athlete and best player so you GOT to get him the ball, and he’s GOT to be playing late, and that’s just not the truth. He’s your best defensive player, he’s your great rim protector, he’s unbelievable in transition, but in the half-court offense, sometimes he gets in the way… You get into situationally half-court basketball it’s Khris Middleton that would worry me [an as opponent], it’s not Giannis. I’d love Giannis to shoot and then I’d foul him and put him at the free-throw line late… Sometimes when he’s off the floor, and it’s weird to say, a two-time MVP, they’re better offensively, the ball moves better, and Khris Middleton and Jrue Holiday feel empowered.” (Full Video Above)

Listen to Colin Cowherd explain why he’s picking the Suns over the Bucks in a short series victory in the 2021 NBA Finals, and why it’s becoming more and more obvious that the Bucks aren’t necessarily worse with Giannis off the floor during this postseason.

Check out the video above as Colin details why the Bucks offense is actually BETTER with Giannis on the bench.
