Colin Cowherd Mocks Steelers For Giving Minkah Fitzpatrick Massive Contract

Colin Cowherd: “I saw this move being celebrated all over the media… Minkah Fitzpatrick is now the highest-paid safety in the NFL’s history, a position that doesn’t, nor should be paid a lot. Pittsburgh is getting into a very interesting place; they have a great history but almost none of it the last 12 years, their biggest rivals in the AFC all have better quarterbacks than they do, they have a defensive coach in clearly an offensive league, and after the Fitzpatrick signing the Steelers now have the most expensive defensive in the NFL and the least money in the NFL invested in offense. That ain’t great in 2022. The standard in Pittsburgh used to be winning Super Bowls. Do you know what they brag about now? ‘Mike Tomlin has never had a losing season!’ I mean, that’s not a negative, but that’s something that the Browns would have been happy with. I’m all for giving TJ Watt whatever he wants, he’s INSANE… Aaron Donald, show him the bag. But a star safety? The Steelers defense last year was ranked 24th. I’d scale back on the big raises for the defensive guys not named TJ Watt. Fitzpatrick is a very good player but the Steelers are starting to feel like the Seahawks a little bit. They don’t have nearly as good a quarterback as other people in their division, defensive coach, haven’t had any real playoff success in a long time, you pay a lot of money to safeties, and your defense has been getting worse for years. I know we all like to celebrate athletes getting money, and I’m all for athletes getting money, Minkah is a fantastic player, and you had to pay him something – I get it, but the standard in Pittsburgh was always Super Bowls. They’re 32nd in offensive spending and 1st in defensive spending. That is not a place I would want to be in 2022 and going forward.” (Full Video Above)

Listen to Colin Cowherd discuss Minkah Fitzpatrick’s record-breaking contract extension with the Pittsburgh Steelers, and explain why he thinks the franchise is actually taking a terrible route with the deal.

Check out the video above as Colin details why he thinks the standards must have been lowered greatly in Pittsburgh, saying that giving a safety that sort of contract isn’t very intelligent in terms of positioning yourself for a Super Bowl.
