Colin Cowherd: “When you and Travis Kelce had that thing at the Super Bowl, the take was ‘Andy is different’, he has a different relationship... Some of these coaches are young, some are old, Shanahan or McVay may have a different relationship with players than a Belichick or Sean Payton. I always defended Peyton Manning when he barked at Jeff Saturday, or if Brady barked at Josh McDaniels. I’m like ‘guys, it’s three hours, you work all week for these moments.’ Did you think it was overblown by the media?”
Andy Reid: “Yeah, listen, I didn’t see him coming or I would have forearm ripped him. But I mean, he got me [laughing]. Listen, I love his passion, he’s always telling me ‘FIRE ME UP!’, and so I’m hard on him. He’s like one of my kids. I try to stay on top of him and make sure that he’s right because he’s our personality of our team. As great of a leader as Patrick is, everybody follows ‘Kels.’ When he’s fired up, everybody follows along in that. Listen, do things get a little crazy, yeah, they get a little crazy, but that’s why the job is so great. His job is great, my job is great, we’re not getting put in the back of a police car for arguing with each other.”
Watch Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid discuss the viral sideline moment he had with Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce that was perhaps the lasting image of Super Bowl LVIII.
Sideline footage showed an incensed Kelce making contact with the 65-year-old Reid and nearly knocking him over after frustrations had boiled over for Chiefs offense that was stagnant in the first half vs. the San Francisco 49ers.Kelce would later admit that his push of Reid was ‘unacceptable’, but many critics of the incident believe Kelce got off easy for literally shoving his own head coach and not being reprimanded for it in the same way a player like Antonio Brown would have been in the same scenario.
Check out the segment above as Reid tells Colin Cowherd that he ‘loves the passion’ of his star tight end, and says Kelce’s flamboyant emotions are one of the driving forces of the entire Chiefs locker room.
