MLB Player Shows Off Gruesome Injury a Day After Fastball Crushes His Face

New York Mets outfielder Kevin Pillar was shockingly back in the Mets dugout on Tuesday night just a day after he took a 95 MPH fastball directly to his face on Monday, as the scene in Atlanta was one of the ugliest you’ll ever see.

Atlanta Braves reliever Jacob Webb drilled Pillar in the nose with the bases loaded in the eighth inning. Pillar instantly went down to his knees, with the telecast clearing showing blood shooting out of Pillar’s nose.

Pillar was rushed to a local hospital for a CT scan but quickly took Twitter after the game to let everyone know that he was doing okay.

“Thanks to everyone that has reached out! Scary moment but I’m doing fine!”, he wrote on Twitter, garnering over 3,000 replies and 5,000 retweets.

He reportedly suffered multiple nasal fractures, but many believe the damage could have been much worse.

Pillar brought the Mets’ lineup card out to the umpires just a night later, sporting a badly swollen face that looked the type of injury you’d only see in the wake of a UFC fight. Both of his eyes were blackened, and his nose was still completely crooked, with stitches ranging the entire bridge of his nose.

The 32-year-old Pillar said before the game “I was sad. It wasn’t so much about the pain, it was just about the fact this team has gone through a lot, and I pride myself on being available… My face will heal but my heart is broken right now because this team is hurting.”

Just the last week the Mets have lost Jacob deGrom, Michael Conforto, Jeff McNeil, and Taijuan Walker to injuries, already have Brandon Nimmo, J.D. Davis, and Seth Lugo on the IL, and still have yet to get Noah Syndergaard and Carlos Carrasco back from their injuries as well.

The Mets are currently 20-16 and lead the slumping NL East by one game over second-place Philadelphia, and four games over third-place Atlanta.
