The Truth Behind the Scandalous Rachel Nichols and Maria Taylor Beef

Rachel Nichols in a leaked phone conversation: “I wish Maria Taylor all the success in the world — she covers football, she covers basketball. If you need to give her more things to do because you are feeling pressure about your crappy longtime record on diversity — which, by the way, I know personally from the female side of it — like, go for it. Just find it somewhere else. You are not going to find it from me or taking my thing away.”

Clay Travis: “This is Rachel Nichols at her honest truth. She is in favor of diversity and inclusion as long as the ‘diversity and inclusion’ does not impact her ability to earn a living. This is the modern-day version of ‘not in my back yard’, when people are in favor of a variety of different political statements as long as there’s not suddenly apartments moving in across the street from their high-end home. ‘Not in my backyard’ is a nimbyism from Rachel Nichols… If you believe that diversity and inclusion truly is an issue and you’re a White person, leave and give your job to a Black person. That’s literally putting your money where your mouth is… Maria Taylor’s contract is up in the next couple of weeks. If you want to know how a story like this actually ends up occurring, it is because Maria Taylor decided to have her people leak this story. She’s the only one who benefits, she’s the only person not quoted directly in the story, she is trying to extort ESPN into paying her a massive salary increase, which she does not otherwise deserve.”

Listen to Clay Travis of Outkick the Coverage discuss the developing Maria Taylor vs. Rachel Nichols beef which has taken the sports world by storm, after a leaked phone conversation with Nichols included damning admissions from Nichols questioning her co-worker Taylor’s credentials at ESPN, and culminating in a revealing New York Times exposé.

In the July 2020 conversation, Nichols said Taylor had been given the nod over her to host the network’s NBA Finals coverage only because she was Black, and ESPN was ‘feeling pressure’ to boast more diversity on-air, adding that ESPN was trying to cover up a shady history of quite the opposite when it came to diversity among its talent.

Check out the video above as Clay details the hypocrisy from Nichols, and why he thinks Taylor herself was responsible for the story being leaked in the first place.
