Justin Fields has officially been named the Chicago Bears' starting quarterback for their Week 3 game against the Cleveland Browns.
The Chicago Tribune's Brad Biggs reports head coach Matt Nagy confirmed the rookie will start as veteran Andy Dalton continues to battle through a left knee injury he experienced during the Bears' Week 2 20-17 victory against the Cincinnati Bengals.
Nagy added that Dalton would be "week to week" and reiterated that the team planned to reinsert him as the starter once he's medically cleared to return, according to Biggs.
Nagy also confirmed former starter Nick Foles would serve as the backup behind Fields on Sunday.
Dalton exited Sunday's game after landing awkwardly on the Bears' sideline while scrambling away from defenders, with his knee appearing to buckle during the play, and was immediately sent to the injury tent.
Fields took over and finished with 60 yards on 6 of 13 passing with an interception, while also recording 31 rushing yards on 10 attempts.
The rookie also completed two passes during limited action in the Bears' season-opening 34-14 loss against the Los Angeles Rams.
Chicago traded up in the 2021 NFL Draft to select Fields at No. 11 overall after a decorated collegiate career at Ohio State, where he gained immediate eligibility after transferring from the University of Georgia following his freshman season.
