Chris Broussard: “Tell me why you want Jake Paul so badly in a boxing match?”
Kendall Gill: “The reason why I want him so badly is because 1) he knocked out Nate Robinson and then bragged about knocking out an NBA player. Well, you can brag about that, but you didn’t fight the NBA player that has experience in the ring and has won four fights, has fought professionally, has been doing this for 16 years, and really knows the sweet science. Before you brag about beating a guy in the NBA, you gotta face the one who really knows what he’s doing. Secondly, I’ve always wanted to display my skills on a grand stage. I’ve been boxing my whole life and when I retired from basketball I decided to go ahead and have four pro fights. I give Jake Paul credit, I don’t knock his hustle as far as carving out a niche for himself, but at the press conference I hear him say ‘I’m about to be the next Muhammad Ali.’ I was like ‘hold up, man, you’re going a little bit too far now.’ I think he’s delusional about his place and I really want to fight him to take him apart. I see all the mistakes that he makes, and I know that he’s front foot heavy, meaning he’s got all of his weight on his front foot and he can’t get out of the way of a jab. I see how he throws his chest hook and then he looks the other way. I see how he comes in with his chin wide open. All these other guys that he’s fighting don’t know that. Stephen Espinoza, the President of Showtime Boxing, reached out to me October 17th and asked me if I would be interested in being on the undercard of the Jake Paul fight. I was like ‘ABSOLUTELY’, I sent in all of my promoter’s information, and they never got back to us because this is what I speculate – they took it back to Jake Paul and his camp going ‘We can have Kendall Gill fight Frank Gore on the undercard’ and they were like ‘NO, NO, NO, THAT’S THE GUY WHO’S BEEN CALLING US OUT FOR A YEAR AND A HALF. WE DON’T WANNA FIGHT HIM!’ ‘So if he beats Frank Gore we know he’s going to call us out in the undercard, so let’s just keep him off it!’ Five days later I found out that my little brother [Deron Williams], who also went to Illinois, is on the undercard against Frank Gore.” (Full Segment Above)
Listen to Kendall Gill, a former 15-year NBA veteran, join Chris Broussard and Rob Parker on The Odd Couple, calling out Jake Paul for ducking him in a potential boxing match.
Gill, 53, who averaged 15.8 points per game in an impressive NBA career that spanned from 1990-2015, said that he was initially supposed to fight Frank Gore on the undercard to Paul’s fight this past weekend, but feel that Paul’s representation then canceled the plan to fight Gill after they were made aware of Gil’s fighting acumen, and knowing Gill would challenge Paul directly to a fight after defeating Gore.
Check out the interview above as Gill, who has already fought four times professionally in the boxing ring and who is currently an MMA commentator, challenges the undefeated Paul to his next fight.
