Doug Gottlieb on Russell Westbrook: 'His Days in the NBA Are Numbered'

Doug Gottlieb: “A guy who not very long ago averaged a triple-double for three consecutive years, was a league MVP, and will be a Naismith Memorial Hall of Famer… He’s had a GREAT career, and it’s not like he’s coming off a massive knee injury or isn’t the same level athlete— he’s not as athletic as he was but he’s still crazy athletic. If you look at statistics he’s had a solid year with the Lakers… and not one team wants him at $2 million prorated over the rest of the year? This is not me saying Russell Westbrook doesn’t play good enough defense or that he doesn’t shoot the ball well enough, but more than anything he doesn’t even know who he is. Whether he’s not able to accept a different role or he's just not good enough at that role because he’s done it one way for 15 years... now you gotta do it another way. All of his act, the lack of ability to be humble, the lack of ability to laugh at yourself, to be an engaged teammate, to be a cog, a role player... You can get away with all of that when you’re one of the best players in the league, but when you’re a $2 million a year dude you have to be the best towel waiver there is, or the best defender there is, or do all the little things that you didn’t have to do when you were a superstar. I’m not saying this, but do you know who is? THE ENTIRE LEAGUE… Russell Westbrook’s days are numbered and maybe up in the NBA.” (Full Audio Segment Above)

Listen to Doug Gottlieb of Fox Sports Radio discuss Russell Westbrook’s post-Lakers odyssey that finds the former MVP without a team and perhaps at the crossroads of his career.

Check out the segment above as Gottlieb details why he thinks Westbrook’s days in the NBA could be ‘numbered’, and why he could simply drift away into the abyss of irrelevance the same way Carmelo Anthony and Allen Iverson did.
