Mookie Betts is Lying Saying He Doesn't Regret Rejecting $300M From Red Sox

Mookie Betts: "I don't regret turning down that. Once I make a decision, I make a decision. I'm not going back and questioning myself. I don't worry about that. The market will be what the market is. We'll just cross that bridge when we get there. But for right now, it's just the safety and health that I'm worried about."

Ben Maller: “Mookie Betts turned down $300 million from the Red Sox, and this wasn’t ‘Funny Money’ like Patrick Mahomes getting a $500 million contract, Mookie Betts had $300 million of actual American currency and dead Presidents that were his. What he’s doing now is a false flag operation and I don’t blame him. He’s holding onto his machismo. His plan backfired and there is no other way to say it. He overplayed his hand. There are reasons he overplayed his hand, as he thought he had the leverage, but the leverage changed, and he didn’t have it anymore. He got greedy… He called the Red Sox bluff in a game of chicken and they ended up trading him to the Dodgers and the Red Sox said ‘if you take that bum David Price of our hands it’s a win-win.’”

Listen to Ben Maller explain why he thinks Mookie Betts is clearly lying when he said he doesn’t regret turning down the Boston Red Sox’ 10-year, $300 million offer that he had on the table in January of 2020, which now seems like a lifetime ago.

The 27-year-old reportedly countered with a 12-year, $420 million compromise, before the Red Sox finally ended up giving him one year and $27 million in arbitration, and eventually traded him to the Dodgers.

Check out the video above as Maller details why he thinks Betts should have taken the deal with the COVID-19 fallout potentially torpedoing the free agent classes for the foreseeable future.
