COVID-19: NFL Officially Cancels All Four Preseason Games

New York Jets v New York Giants

The NFL and the NFL Players Association have reached an agreement to cancel the preseason as players prepare to begin training camp. The league was hesitant to cancel all four games and had suggested cutting the number of games in half.

The players felt they needed more time to physically acclimate to football after months off due to the coronavirus pandemic. They were also concerned about the risk of traveling for meaningless exhibition games. The league eventually decided it was best to scrap the preseason entirely.

In addition to canceling the preseason, both sides agreed to reduce the roster size from 90 to 80.

Rookies reported for training camp on Tuesday (July 21). They will be joined by quarterbacks and injured players on Thursday, while veteran players will report on July 28.

The NFL is still moving forward with its plans to kick off the regular season on September 10.
