Marcus Smart has agreed to a new long-term deal to stay with the Boston Celtics.
The Athletic's Shams Charania reports Smart agreed to a four-year, $77.1 million max contract extension on Monday (August 16th), which is fully guaranteed through 2025-26 and includes a trade kicker, sources confirmed.
Smart, 27, spent all of his previous seven NBA seasons with the Celtics after being selected by the franchise at No. 6 overall in the 2014 NBA Draft, following a decorated two-year collegiate career at Oklahoma State University.
Several of Smart's Celtics teammates were excited about the news of the defensive-minded guard returning long-term, including franchise player Jayson Tatum.
"Happy for my dawg!" Tatum quote-tweeted in response to Bleacher Report's reposting of Charania's report.
"Love my G- now let's turn up," Smart quote-tweeted in response to Tatum's reaction.
The guard also shared a previous tweet of seven shamrock emojis, a plus sign, and four more shamrock emojis after reports of his extension were made public.
TeammatesJaylen Brown and Al Horford both liked tweets related to news of the extension, while Grant Williams also quote-tweetedBleacher Report's tweet.
"YESSIR SMART! Happy for you my G!" Williams posted.
Smart averaged 13.1 points, 5.7 assists, and 3.5 rebounds during the 2020-21 season and enters his eighth NBA season with averaging 10.2 points, 4.2 assists, and 3.6 rebounds for his career.
